Day 1 |
- Introduction to MDF Nepal and Nepali culture as it affects MD.
- Introduction to Muscular Dystrophy – genetics, pathology, incidence, medical complications and management.
- Observation

Day 2 |
- Role of physiotherapy.
- Outline of daily management including stretches and active exercise

Day 3 |
- Explanation and teaching of assessment protocols – includes manual muscle testing, ROM measurement, functional assessment and respiratory function.
- Teach stretches

Day 4 |
- Physiotherapy students - hands-on treatments starting with warm up exercises (under supervision). This allows the students to establish some rapport with patients and allows the patients to become familiar with foreign students.
- Other volunteers are also able to participate or to help in other areas such as in the office, maintaining equipment and resources, organising activities for the clients such as art classes or music.

Day 5 |
- Under supervision, students will be expected to commence treatments as prescribed by the supervising physiotherapist. Other volunteers may assist the physiotherapist as instructed.
- Volunteers and students will also be able to accompany the physiotherapist on a routine home visit if this can be arranged and the family is willing.

Week 2 |

Days 6 to 10 |
- Students will continue to treat patients attending the centre and will perform an assessment with the supervising physiotherapist towards the end of week 2.
- If possible, a meeting with MDF's Neurologist and Orthopaedic Surgeon will be arranged.
- Other volunteers may assist the physiotherapist or arrange some activities with other patients eg drawing, music, puzzles etc.

As week 2. However at this stage students will find themselves more familiar with the patients and will be expected to be more independent. |
