Before you arrive

There are a few things that you can do before you arrive in Nepal which will add to the richness of your experience.

  • Take the time to read a little about Nepal and the culture. You will understand and appreciate the things and people around you more.
  • Make time to learn a few Nepali words and phrases.
  • Check the times and dates of important festivals such as Dashain and Tihar as everything shuts down for several days. Volunteering during these times is not advised.
  • Have a look at the web site for MDF www.mdfnepal.org.np and read a little about Muscular Dystrophy.
  • If you are planning to bring donated goods to Nepal , try to establish the suitability of and the need for the items beforehand so that the items will be used. Sometimes your local MD association will be happy to send some resources to MDF with you.

We do not offer accommodation but can help you find suitable home-stay or hotels nearby. Please contact the MDF as soon as possible regarding this as it can take some time to arrange.

Finally, MDF charges a fee of 100 USD per week for international students. For 3 weeks the fee is 250 USD. Non-student volunteers are asked to make a token donation. These funds go directly to maintenance of our ongoing programs of therapy, counselling and education.

Please contact us if you require further information and we hope to see you in Nepal in the near future.

Yours Faithfully
